Matt Chapman horse racing tips: I've unearthed a real hot fancy in a devilishly difficult race to decipher at Doncaster | The Sun

A FABULOUS little horse called Branston Abby once won the Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster, but sorting today’s race out could get you in a right pickle!

Added to which, the weather looks foul!

However, the Group 3 Japan Racing Association Sceptre is the feature race on the opening afternoon of the four-day Cazoo St Leger Festival.

In a decently-sized field there are plenty merely trying to get placed in Group company for breeding purposes.

But on paper, the three that stand out for me are Heredia, Novemba and Bounce the Blues.

Rated 110, Novemba only has two wins from 13 starts but is a classy sort who won a Group 2 in Dusseldorf last year.

A fourth at Royal Ascot behind Saffron Beach in the Duke of Cambridge was a decent effort and if repeated will be hard to beat.

She's usually a front-runner, although was slowly away when last seen.

Heredia looked a star early this season with wins at York and then in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot.

She was not quite so good in Listed company at Sandown and Group 3 at Goodwood but was far from disgraced. Likes to come from off the pace so keep your eyes peeled for a late burst.

The one I will chance each way is BOUNCE THE BLUES for Andrew Balding and William Buick.

Bounce the Blues has two wins from 15 starts and mixes seven furlongs and a mile.

She had a fair run at Sundown last time behind Potapova and has been to Doncaster twice before when third in this race in 2020 and fifth in the 2021 Doncaster Mile.

She’s a hold up performer who should get a strong gallop to run at.

Later on the card if the rain has really arrived take a good look at MO CELITA in the Listed Cazoo Scarborough Stakes.

On paper the Adrian Nicholls runner has plenty to find, but the four-year-old loves some cut and many of the leading hopes don’t.

It’s definitely a weather watch selection, but I’m on Sky Sports Racing with a weather watch on Wednesday morning and if I’m being drowned get on before the price will surely shorten!

Frankie Dettori is also a rather useful jockey booking…
