Ryan Reynolds ‘set for shock debut’ as Wrexham owners are included in $1m, seven-a-side tournament | The Sun

RYAN REYNOLDS is in line to make his "crazy" debut for Wrexham.

The Hollywood A-lister has been named in Wrexham's initial seven-a-side squad list for a tournament in the United States over the summer.

The tournament, called The Soccer Tournament (TST), will see a team of Wrexham legends competing for the chance of winning a $1million (£825,000) prize fund.

Reynolds will be joined by fellow actor and Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenny and a host of former Wrexham players.

The rest of the team includes ex-Premier League star David Jones – now a player-coach at Wrexham – and ex-stars Paul Rutherford, Shaun Pearson and Mark Carrington, who all left in 2021.

The tournament will be based in Cray, North Carolina and will run between May 31 and June 4.

Wrexham have garnered a massive boost to their fanbase, particularly with American fans, following the docuseries "Welcome to Wrexham" available on Disney+ and Hulu.

Reynolds and McElhenny took over the club in November 2020, and are currently pursuing promotion from the National League into the Football League.

As it stands, the Welsh outfit sit five points off of league leaders Notts County, though have two games in hand.

TST will see Wrexham compete alongside 31 other teams, though only 10 have been announced thus far.

These include YouTube team Hashtag United, former USA star Clint Dempsey's Team Dempsey, and a team of USWNT players organised by Heather O’Reilly.

There is also a team of legendary martial artists, Mesut Ozil owned Liga MX team Club Necaxa and team Conrad & Beasley United led by former USMNT stars Jimmy Conrad and DaMarcus Beasley.

The competition is the sister of the Basketball version, The Basketball Tournament (TBT).
