Angela Scanlon ‘avoiding fake tan’ on BBC’s Strictly Coming Dancing – after youthful error

Angela Scanlon is ready to take on the sequins and spandex that comes with Strictly Come Dancing – however, she's ruled out the classic spray tan that comes with the BBC show.

The TV presenter is taking part in this year's competition alongside the likes of Amanda Abbington, Adam Thomas and Angela Rippon.

Speaking to OK! in an exclusive interview, Angela admitted that she's been burnt before by a tangerine fake tan.

"Sequins? Literally roll me in them. But fake tan? I haven’t worn fake tan in 15 years.

"I had quite an intense relationship with it," she added. "I was very committed and it wasn’t a light hue. Maybe a little bit of make-up but I don’t know if I’m going to be getting into the booth every Friday.”

The 39-year-old is best known for hosting Your Home Made Perfect and is just one of the TV presenters taking part in this year's Strictly, with Les Dennis and Krishnan Guru-Murthy also descending on the dance floor.

Married to tech entrepreneur Roy Horgan, Angela has two children – five-year-old Ruby and 18-month-old Marnie.

Speaking about joining Strictly, Angela said that the timing seemed perfect with her kids a little older. "We’ve had the conversation before and it hasn’t been right – I’ve been trying to have a baby or thinking about having a baby or pregnant.

"When it came in this year, there wasn’t really a question. Ruby loves the show. She was like, ‘Can I do it, too? Are we doing it together?’ She was quite devastated when she realised she couldn’t dance with me," she added.

She also turned to former Strictly stars Ellie Taylor and radio DJ Clara Amfo for advice – and that the resounding feedback was "brace yourself but it's the best thing you'll ever do".

"That’s my motivation in life generally, to do things that feel frightening and really uncomfortable, and I feel like I haven’t done it for a while," she said.

The BBC show was recently triumphant at the National Television Awards last week, picking up the Talent Show award.

The cast paid an emotional tribute to star Amy Dowden, who'll be sitting out of the upcoming series as she undergoes treatment for breast cancer.

Strictly Come Dancing launches on Saturday 16th September at 6:45pm on BBC One.
