Coronation Street fans gobsmacked at age gap between Tyrone star and Cassie

Coronation Street: Evelyn and Cassie

Coronation Street viewers have been left baffled after working out the small age gap between actor Alan Halsall and his new on-screen mum Claire Sweeney.

This week, fans of the ITV soap saw Evelyn Plummer’s (played by Maureen Lipman) estranged daughter Cassie (Claire Sweeney) arrive in Weatherfield.

It looks as though there’s trouble ahead for Evelyn as she’s told her grandson Tyrone (Alan Halsall) his mother is dead.

However, viewers have been left distracted after working out the age gap between the two actors in real life.

Taking to Twitter, @CentralCeeSocks commented: “IRL there is only 11 years age difference between Clare Sweeney and Alan Halsall!”

@TheGrumpyB**ch added: “Wasn’t Tyrone’s mum originally Margi Clarke? Love @clairesweeney but the age gap?”

@Darryl__Jason tweeted: “Googling Alan Halsall’s age (40) and Claire Sweeney (52) So Cassie had Tyrone when she was 12!”

@AndyGibsonTV said: “How the hell is she Tyrone’s mum? Aren’t they the same age?”

@xViCkIx_ questioned: “So Tyrone is supposed to be this mystery woman’s son, but they look the same age? Okay, Corrie. Great job on that casting.”

On Wednesday evening, fans got to see Evelyn come face-to-face with her daughter as things became heated while Cassie was in the hospital.

It transpired that Cassie is a drug addict who stole money from her mother, which is how she knew her address and where to find her.

Although she’s yet to meet Tyrone, official spoilers reveal Cassie turns up at Evelyn’s house with her son asking how the pair know each other.
