Coronation Street fans stunned by Eileen's dramatic personality transplant | The Sun

GRUMPY Eileen Grimshaw startled viewers with a new sunny disposition.

But while George Shuttleworth was scared of the new Eileen, Coronation Street fans were pleased to see her relaxed.

Since her first appearance in 2000, Eileen got viewers used to her abrasive and sarcastic nature.

But in comedic scenes aired on Monday, she became a changed woman after an accident involving pumpkins and her long-term foe Gail Platt.

Smiley Eileen was seen again during Wednesday's trip to Weatherfield, promising her partner George Shuttleworth (played Tony Maudsley) she'd spoil him rotten.

However, George and even Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) were uneasy around the new Eileen.

Meanwhile, on social media, ITV viewers were happy to see the character at peace and couldn't help but make a reference to actress Sue Cleaver's upcoming stint in I'm A Celebrity.

The soap star was seen touching down in Australia, in the early hours of Wednesday morning for the next series of the reality show.

The crossover of two ITV programs amused Corrie fans.

"Eileen looks so beautiful when she's like this, she suits being happy", one viewer commented as another joked: "Eileen is glowing like the Australian Sun gleaming off the Gold Coast."

A third viewer added: "Was Eileen's out of body experience and bright light by any chance her parachuting out of the I'm A Celebrity helicopter to a waiting camera?!"

"George doesn't need to take Eileen to the hospital. She'll be fine when she gets back from Australia", quipped another.

One fan wrote: "Eileen is not herself, she could do with a holiday. Australia maybe?"

"Eileen actually looks nice when she smiles", a viewer gushed but another disagreed: "This new side of Eileen is scary."

It soon became clear why Eileen was so happy as she opened up about her near-death experience which followed Monday's pumpkin mishap.

She told George that, while she was unconscious, she saw a bright light, smelt something sweet and heard music, making her believe she was given a glimpse of heaven.

However, when she left the room, George admitted to Sean she was sorely mistaken.

According to the undertaker, the light came from the torch on his phone, the smell was his vanilla slice and the music was only Gail's relaxation music ring tone.

Sean asked George if he was ready to tell Eileen the truth, to which he responded he probably wouldn't.

"She seems more at peace, gentle, kinder, I don't want to spoil that", he went on to explain, despite the change scaring him.
