Coronation Street spoilers: Roy devastated as Bernie takes Hayley's clothes | The Sun

BERNIE Winter is causing some more trouble in the cobbles next week when she gets rid of Hayley Cropper's legendary anorak.

Soon enough, Roy Cropper is devastated and searches throughout Coronation Street with Evelyn Plummer's help.

Not one to shy away from some extra cash, Bernie (portrayed by Jane Hazlegrove) has sometimes wreaked more havoc than she intended.

Such will be the case again next week when, desperate for money, she persuades Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) to let her give the flat a good clean ahead of her uncle Roy's (David Neilson) birthday.

The owner of the Roy's Rolls café will be celebrating his 68th birthday on September 21, 2022.

When Bernie finds a box of old clothes, she suggests they donate them to charity.

Sadly, Nina fails to spot the Hayley's red anorak in the box, one of the only things Roy has kept of his late wife.

Later on, Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) presents Roy with a model train for his birthday and he recognises it as his own.

Realising the train must have come from the same charity shop where Hayley's anorak has been sent to, Evelyn orders Roy to get going in an attempt to find it.

The pair eventually find the charity shop and Evelyn marches in, ripping the anorak from Joy's back, leaving her bewildered.

Evelyn heads out – but how will Roy react?

As mentioned above, Hayley was Roy's wife and made her first appearance in the cobbles in 1998 and she met the café owner soon after, when Alma and Mike Baldwin were adamant on setting her up with Curly Watts.

The pair met during a dinner party and, although his stories bore everyone around the table, Roy had caught Hayley's eye almost immediately and the rest was history.

Roy did have a shock, however, when he found out that Hayley was born a man before transitioning.

He eventually came to terms with Hayley's trans identity and the pair went on to live a happily married life, despite a few dramatic mishaps.

Sadly, Hayley was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2013 and, feeling herself getting weaker, she decided to take her own life a year later, with Roy by her side.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV.
