Coronation Street’s Carla Connor’s fate ‘confirmed’ as Stephen goes on final rampage

Coronation Street fans have been given a huge hint about Carla Connor's fate as serial killer Stephen Reid's reign of terror reaches its terrifying climax.

Actress Alison King, who plays Underworld boss Carla, appeared to confirm what would happen to her character as she spoke about the upcoming departure of her screen husband Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne).

Chris, who has starred in the ITV soap for 23 years, is due to take a sabbatical from the show – although his exit storyline hasn't yet been revealed.

But there's good news for any Carla fans who might have been worried that she could be leaving at the hands of villainous Stephen (Todd Boyce), as she seems to have confirmed that she will not be killed off.

According to Metro, when she was asked if Carla would be sticking around in Weatherfield after Peter's exit, she said: "Yes, I think so."

Carla is set to discover that Stephen has been spiking her drinks with LSD, making her believe that she is suffering from psychotic episodes, but it seems as though he won't actually manage to kill her off.

Alison admitted that Carla's biggest worry over Stephen would be the damage that he has done to the factory and whether she can put things right.

Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell) has been fooled by Stephen into transferring all of Underworld's finances into one new account, without realising that it is actually a fake account created by Stephen himself and that the factory has been left penniless.

Alison said: "With Carla, you always get the street against her. It’s normally about money and people’s livelihoods, and I imagine that will be affected again from this until she gets something sorted again with the factory."

Corrie viewers are set to see Stephen's final scenes during ITV's Super Soaps Week, when Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) will find himself in mortal danger after discovering the body of one of Stephen's victims, Teddy.

He will attack Tim and attempt to kill him, although viewers don't know yet whether he will be successful.

But Carla and Peter are also in for worrying scenes as Carla storms over to confront Stephen after finding out he is being investigated for murder, and finds him in a tense row with Peter.

Talking about Chris's exit, Alison said: "He’s my husband! It’ll be okay. We’re such good friends now that we’re in each other’s lives and at home. Caroline [Chris’s wife] will take care of him for me! It’s always sad without Chris but it’ll be alright."
