During Monday’s instalment of the ITV soap, Coronation Street fans saw Daisy Midgeley’s (played by Charlotte Jordan) stalker Justin Rutherford (Andrew Still) carry out a horrific acid attack on her wedding day. Although it was Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) who took the full force. Speaking to Express.co.uk, the actor revealed he had no idea of the shocking plot.

After months of being harassed by her stalker, things all came to blows for Daisy on her big wedding day to Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard).

With a series of mishaps happening beforehand, such as waking up with a red eye, the car being stolen and getting the wrong cake, the day didn’t get off to the best start.

However, when Daisy was finally ready with Ryan stepping in to be the chauffeur it all looked as though her luck was about to turn around.

That was until she discovered Justin lurking in the shadows of The Rovers, he threw liquid at her in an act of sinister revenge.

Although the acid attack was meant for the bride, Ryan got in the way with the majority of the liquid landing on him.

During the episode, Coronation Street fans saw the victim rushed to the hospital after Daisy managed to drag him upstairs to the shower to try and stop the pain.

Touching on when he first found out about the upcoming attack, Ryan Prescott revealed he got a call from producer Iain MacLeod while abroad.

When speaking to Express.co.uk and other media publications, the actor said: “Iain first called me when I was on holiday.

“I was sitting on the sunbed by the pool in Crete. I didn’t really know what to expect, he said there was going to be something big in the pipeline for Ryan (Connor).

“I had no idea it would be something that gritty you know? Because Ryan kind of usually slides into the more humorous elements of the show.

“So to have something that serious, I was just excited to be honest.

“It kind of woke me up from being subdued watching the ocean! Full of excitement and something gritty to get into for Ryan.

“I was excited to kind of explore different things for him. It’s something of real substance so as an actor you can get stuck in a little bit more.”

During the episode, fans saw Justin follow Daisy to the hospital where she spotted him waiting in his car.

As he tried to justify his actions, the stalker suggested by trying to make her look undesirable to others, he’d still be there to look after her.

After luring him out of the car, Daisy managed to get the attention of the police and Justin was finally arrested.

Speaking about the long-term effects Ryan will have now after the attack, the soap star added: “It’s going to change his life forever because it changes the way he interacts with the world.

“The difficulty within the premises of a soap is to show some kind of reality of the longevity of what it means to be an acid attack survivor in this case.

“Because, the respiration period and the recovery period is so long if not life-long. It’s psychotherapy, physiotherapy for many years if not the rest of your life, PTSD and trauma therapy and learning simple things.

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV1 and ITVX from 8pm.
