Corrie star reveals 'unusual' scenes ahead in big Toyah kidnap story

Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) is about to find herself in danger in Coronation Street as Spider Nugent’s (Martin Hancock) life as an undercover police officer starts to impact her.

When Toyah searches through Spider’s laptop, she discovers that he actually has quite a bit of money to his name, more than he’s making out.

What Toyah doesn’t know at that point is that Spider’s life is already being threatened by Griff (Michael Condron), the far right gang leader who Spider helped to bring to justice.

Spider has started to suspect that he’s being followed and tells his superiors about it, but doesn’t mention it to Toyah.

Toyah, meanwhile, launches an investigation into her partner, finding out that he’s still in contact with his ex-wife. Spider, however, claims to be trying to finalise his divorce, before he drops to one knee and proposes.

‘She’s definitely shocked!’, Georgia Taylor explained to us.

‘I think she thought they would probably get a place together and live together for a bit, so this feels like maybe jumping the gun a little bit, although she does love him very much. I think the issue is that because he has been hiding things from her, you could argue that if it’s all above board with his ex why has he not just told her that in the first place.

‘So I think there are a few little niggles where she’s thinking can I completely trust him and if I agree to this what is my life and my future going to be like, married to someone who is an undercover detective.’

As Spider tries to work out who is following him, Toyah is met with a lady in the flat who is claiming to be his partner.

The problem? Spider’s actual ex-wife isn’t even in the country, which sets off alarm bells in his head.

‘She’s just completely bewildered, and a bit frightened because it’s just incredibly irrational behaviour from this mystery person to pretend to be someone else so there’s red flags all over the place’, Georgia said.

‘Spider says to her just keep calm, I’m on my way back, don’t give the game away. So she’s just trying to act normal and use her people skills as a counsellor to keep calm in the moment. But we’ll have to wait and see if this woman believes the façade that Toyah is putting on.’

As Toyah becomes aware that the woman is an imposter, Spider and Leanne (Jane Danson) race back to the flat but when they get there, they find no Toyah, no Sam (Jude Riordan), and blood on the floor.

With the clock ticking, Spider tries his best to find Toyah and Sam and according to Georgia, high drama follows next:

‘This comes hot on the heels of me having quite a lot of drama last year, but that does tend to happen in soap. I’ve definitely filmed some scenes that were a bit unusual and there was some location filming which was really fun, so there’s definitely a bit of drama to look out for.

‘I think it’s difficult, the relationship has failed once before between Toyah and Spider’, Georgia added, reflecting on how much Toyah and Spider have been through over the years.

‘But I think they’ve always had a very deep connection and the fact that he was her first love definitely counts for an awful lot, there’s a lot of nostalgia there. I love working with Martin so I’d love them to move forward and explore that.’
