Devil May Cry, the hit videogame that has sold around 30M copies worldwide, is being turned into an anime series at Netflix.
The streamer has ordered the eight-episode project from Studio Mir. It comes from Adi Shankar, who created Netflix’s Castlevania.
The game was first released by Capcom in 2001, and centers on demon hunter Dante. The animated series will follow the sinister forces at play to open the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon-hunter-for-hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.
Shankar will serve as showrunner and will exec produce alongside Capcom’s Hideaki Itsuno and Studio Mir’s Seung Wook Lee. Alex Larsen will write.
Shankar said, “I’m honored that Netflix and Capcom have entrusted me to shepherd the Devil May Cry franchise. Alex Larsen and I love these characters, we are part of the fandom, and vow to surpass the exceptionally high bar we set for ourselves.”
