Doctor Who star 'terrified she'll be sacked' after live blunder with Alex Jones on The One Show

Ruth Madeley took to the flagship primetime BBC One show to promote her new programme Unique Boutique.

However, it's fair to say that the presenters of The One Show had other plans over where the televised conversation was headed.

Alex Jones, 46, and Jermaine Jenas, 40, took to the iconic green sofa to present Monday's edition of the evening magazine show.

The pair welcomed Ruth – who's set to appear in the 60th anniversary special of Doctor Who – onto the show

The Don't Take My Baby star will play the role of Shirley Anne Bingham in the upcoming episodes.

As the interview appeared to come to an end, Alex Jones rapped up the conversation and thanked the guests before circling back to ask the 35-year-old actress about her upcoming role in the hit sci-fi series.

She exclaimed: "We need to talk about Dr Who!"

Instantly the actress's whole demeanour changed as she seemed to become uncomfortable with the topic.

Ruth shrugged: "Oh my word! … This conversation terrifies me."

Ever the professional, Alex pressed her guest as she wanted more details for The One Show viewers.

The actress then opened up on her experience as she admitted that she was fearful she would be dropped from the show if she gave away to much.

She explained: "Literally this has been giving me such anxiety all day, I'm so terrified to be sacked before it's even out because I'm so convinced I'm going to say something that I shouldn't.

"You're going to love Shirley, you're going to love the episode or episodes. Who knows?"

She was seen to gasp as she realised that she may have just given away a yet unknown spoiler.

Trying to adjust, she cryptically specified: "All I will say is whatever questions you have my answer will be 'guess'."
