Emmerdales Emma Atkins issues warning to fans as shes targeted by fake account

Emmerdale's Charity Dingle star, Emma Atkins, has revealed she has been targeted by a fake Twitter account.

Taking to Instagram, the actress, 48, issued a warning to her loyal soap fans and 176K followers, telling them not to follow the fake account.

Posting a statement to her Instagram Story, Emma, who rarely posts on her social media and uses it to promote her stunning photography work, wrote: "Someone is pretending to be me on Twitter with an identical account called @missematkins please don’t follow it is a FAKE ACCOUNT.

"They have used the same wording from my Instagram account to try and appear authentic. It is not."

It comes as Emma's co-star, Louise Jameson, revealed earlier this year that she has been left "terrified" after turning 70 due to being targeted on a weekly basis by scammers.

The actress, 72, who plays Mary Goskirk, told the Mirror: "I will get an email, phone call or text at least once a week trying to tempt me into some scam.

"They could well be algorithms but there are ones that will say things like ‘I’ve got loads of money, can you give me your bank details so I can put it in there.’

"Then there are others like ‘Can you move all your money into this account so we can save your current account’."

Louise revealed that she has become very wary especially as one of her close friends was scammed out of £20,000.

It comes as Louise's character, Mary, was scammed earlier this year on the hit ITV soap by then on-screen girlfriend Faye.

Viewers will recall that Mary was left for dead earlier this year as her then partner Faye's true nature was revealed in a sinister twist where she took off with her money after scamming her.

In upcoming scenes next week, Mary is left rocked by a piece of news as the police show up in the village to deliver an update.

PC Swirling reveals that Faye has been arrested and charged. However, in yet another cruel twist for Mary, he reveals that Faye has denied all of the charges against her.

Will this mean a potential return for Faye and could Mary have to give evidence in court?
