EastEnders’ Brian Conley says show parrot ‘keeps swearing’ and has to be removed from set

EastEnders star Brian Conley has revealed that he's having issues with one particular co-star on set – his character's parrot Jasper.

The soap star told OK! that Oscar the parrot, who plays Rocky's pet bird Jasper, swears so much on set that it's been removed from scenes on some occasions.

"It’s been well documented that it does swear a lot. Just between us, we brought this parrot on and I said to the director, 'Is it going to make a lot of noise?' And then the trainer lady came on and she said 'No, because it’s a new environment it’s going to be very quiet.'

"So anyway, we start and it kept swearing and I do know there is an outtakes tape and I really hope to see it one day. It was so funny that they put it together. It just kept swearing to the point where we have to pretend it’s there!"

He added that his winged co-star "gets on [his] nerves" on set and has called him "every name under the sun".

"I made a real point of saying I didn’t want it like a sitcom parrot, I didn’t want it saying things very clearly like it does in real life, so I think they very cleverly its voice is subtle enough," he said. "It’s called me every name under the sun and it works off script a lot, ad-libs and it upsets me. It writes its own stuff and gets on my nerves.

"It’s hilarious. I love that it’s a parrot and who knows how that plot will thicken," he continued. "If you put it into the show you wouldn’t believe it. It could blurt out who killed who!"

We'll have to see if Rocky's parrot is present at his wedding to Kathy Beale, which is set to take place in upcoming episodes of EastEnders.

The last few weeks have seen Rocky's past come to haunt him however, with his ex-wife Jo (played by Vicki Michelle) returning to torment him.

Joining the soap back in February, Vicki said she was "so excited" to be on the soap, adding: "Jo Cotton is a great character and it is such a great story. I can’t wait for the audience to meet her."

In other Beale news, EastEnders recently confirmed that Cindy Beale, played by Michelle Collins, would be returning to the soap later in the year alongside her former husband Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt).

While fans have spotted clues for Cindy's return date, with many convinced that she could be returning in time for Rocky and Kathy's wedding.
