EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick caught up with Metro.co.uk to discuss what’s coming up for Jay Brown in the aftermath of Lola Pearce’s death.

Lola, as viewers know, tragically died last week after a battle with a terminal brain tumour.

Jay, who married Lola earlier this year, was by her side every step of the way throughout her battle, supporting her right to the very end, as he said goodbye to her in emotional scenes.

‘I don’t know how many messages I’ve had from people who lost a relative or a widow, or are suffering themselves,’ Jamie told us on the red carpet of the British Soap Awards, reflecting on the fan reaction to the storyline.

‘I’ve got this thing about health’, he continued. ‘I’ve got bad health anxiety.

‘It’s really bad. It’s a bit close to home for me. But we did this storyline for [the people going through it]. So, to everyone who sent a message or said a lovely thing, we all really appreciate it. Just thank you ever so much.’

When asked if Jay would ever find love again, Jamie told us that he didn’t know, but added that he’s got a chat with Chris Clenshaw, EastEnders’ boss, to discuss the future for the character.

‘I’ve had scenes with other females but nothing of any value in that way. He’s not getting [into a relationship] with them.’

The actor added that if anything was to happen in the relationship department for Jay it would likely be further down the line and ‘not next week,’ which means that he can have a ‘nice little break’ after featuring significantly in the show over the past couple of months.

EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
