Emmerdales Cathy Hope makes decision as health spirals

Emmerdale: Cathy and Bob have a huge row

Emmerdale youngster Cathy Hope’s (played by Gabrielle Dowling) mood swings seem to have spiralled out of control lately and things are set to get worse in upcoming scenes.

After a number of meltdowns, Cathy decided to see Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker), who put the youngster on the pill in a bid to control her heavy periods.

However, while the contraceptive pill seems to have kept her heavy periods at bay, Cathy has continued to show some worrying signs, and her family are concerned about her.

In official spoilers released by ITV, Cathy has a tough decision to make as she contemplates leaving the village.

Cathy’s dad Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw) is thrown when Cathy’s teacher suggest she defer a year from school because the teenager won’t be granted an access arrangement without a formal diagnosis.

Cathy desperately doesn’t want to be kept back a year and persuades her teacher to let her take the exams.

However, later on, the youngster tries to drink away her trouble with Marshall (Max Fletcher) and the next day, Cathy is ashamed by her actions and flies off the handle.

As a result of her outburst, she ends up striking Bob by accident and scratches him with her keys.

The cafe owner is taken aback by his daughter and winces, still holding his bleeding cheek.

Later, cooling off from the day’s events, Bob gives Cathy a hug but as he leaves, a lost Cathy takes a packed rucksack out from behind the sofa.

Shes stares at the B&B with tears in her eyes and turns and heads off into the night.

Will Cathy end up leaving the village for good, and if so, where will she go?

Ever since Cathy’s behaviour started to change, fans have been coming up with their own theories about what could be wrong.

Some suggested the schoolgirl could be bipolar or suffering with manic depression.

Taking to Twitter to share their theories, @Roseville_Girl tweeted: “Thinking about Cathy on #emmerdale I wonder if she has something like manic depression that her periods aren’t helping or some kinda mood disorder linked to the hormone imbalance. Most unbelievable bit was her seeing the crisis team so fast!” (sic)

@maitra_sulagna theorised: “Cathy, her mood swings, is that what bipolar disorder looks like? #emmerdale.”

“Cathy…Personality Disorder? I said that weeks ago ….. #emmerdale,” @Carol44698330 commented.

Emmerdale boss, Jane Hudson has also teased what’s in store for the teenager. Spreaking to Express.co.uk and other press ahead of Cathy’s storyline, she said: “You’ll see a really big story for Cathy, Bob’s daughter, which is really emotional.

“It’s her first big story really, and it’s a challenging one and I think it’s one that a lot of parents will connect with and it’s one I haven’t seen a soap do before so Cathy’s got a big story coming up.”

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV.
