During a rerun of Jane McDonald: Cruising Scotland, the Channel 5 presenter travelled on a small boat around the Inner Hebrides. The cruise ship singer also got in touch with her Scottish roots as she told viewers the trip was a “special journey” for her, admitting the place felt like home.
At the beginning of the travel show, the 59-year-old admitted the rest of her family are Scottish, apart from her and her brother.
“This is the first time I’ve had a chance to get to know my homeland,” Jane reflected.
“We’re in Oban, which is on the west coast of Scotland.
“I’m going for a trip on a lovely ship. It’s a very small one around the inner Hebrides.
“Because I’ve got Scottish roots, I’m looking forward to this is a bit of a personal voyage for me this one.”
She later went on to add: “This pretty seaside town is surrounded by beautiful countryside and miles of dramatic coastline and makes me feel quite at home.
“All my family come from Scotland, and there’s only me and my brother that are from England.
“So it’s just a really lovely feeling when I come back to Scotland. I love it.”
Jane went on to chat about the Scottish accent, and how her family speak at home.
“My grandmother always sounded really posh, but she was from Dundee and sounded really posh. “
Elsewhere in the episode, Jane appeared to get emotional when chatting about her beloved father.
Jane travelled to Tobermory to take part in Cèilidh, a traditional form of Scottish dancing.
As she was span around on the dancefloor, the presenter made an admission about her father and how he taught her to dance.
“I just realised how fit I was as a child dancing with my father,” Jane said to the camera.
“I used to go every week ballroom dancing with my dad, and you don’t know how special that is until they are gone.”
Jane got emotional as she watched people dancing, before adding: “Don’t make me cry.”
As the presenter bid farewell to Scotland, she took a moment to think about her father again.
“I think looking out to this, I think of my dad really,” she said before adding: “Because although he’s been gone… he passed over in 1993.
“When you’re somewhere as beautiful as this, your loved ones, I feel come around you.
“And I just feel my dad has been on this journey with me.”
As she looked up into the sky and raised her glass, Jane paid a tribute, by saying: “Here’s to you, dad.”
