Stephen Lustig-Webb, former Gogglebox star and Dancing On Ice contestant, has finally spoken out about his unfortunate exit from the ITV show due to a severe injury.
The telly favourite was all set to join the 2024 series of the popular ITV skating competition but had to bow out after suffering a nasty ankle break during training.
The 52 year old, who left Gogglebox after ten years with dreams of exploring new TV opportunities, saw his hopes of competing on the ice come to a sudden halt.
His participation in Dancing on Ice was announced shortly after he left Gogglebox, but sadly, his stint was cut short. A spokesperson for Dancing On Ice shared over the weekend: "Stephen Lustig-Webb has had to withdraw from the show due an injury he sustained to his ankle during training. He is still very much a part of the Dancing On Ice family, we will be helping to support Stephen and we wish him well with his recovery."
Stephen has now opened up about his injury and revealed that he had to have surgery. He posted a picture of himself resting his leg in a cast while snuggling with his three cute pups on a sofa.
The TV star said: "Thank you for all of your kind words and messages. On Wednesday last week during my training session for Dancing on Ice I fell and broke my left ankle."
"I've had surgery and will be on crutches for a few months meaning, I've had to leave the competition which I'm absolutely gutted about. I was having so much fun and enjoying learning to skate. I will of course be keeping a close eye on all of the other celebs and pros and supporting them all the way. Unfortunately, I will also have to pull out of the London Marathon. I'm doing my best to keep my spirits up and will hopefully be back on my feet again very soon."
Fans showered the former Channel 4 star with support, with one saying: "Gutted for you hope you have speedy recovery." Another chimed in: "Oh noooooooo poor you! Hope Daniel is taking care of you."
One fan even asked: "Can you come back to Gogglebox then please whilst you recover? Miss you two but get well soon." A fourth fan suggested: "Back to gogglebox lol? Speedy recovery."
Ex Gogglebox star Mica Venna expressed her sympathy: "Aaaaah so sorry bro, I was really looking forward to watching you skating around like a fairy on ice sending you tonnes of love and prayers of quick healing." Dancing On Ice contestant Greg Rutherford also sent his well wishes, saying: "Sending love buddy xx."
Stephen was all set to join a dazzling line-up of celebs skating for the next Dancing on Ice trophy including Greg Rutherford, Ryan Thomas, Miles Nazaire, Roxy Shahidi, Adele Roberts, Ricky Norwood, Ricky Hatton, Claire Sweeney, Hannah Spearitt, Amber Davies and Lou Sanders.
Dancing On Ice has now confirmed that Eddie The Eagle will be stepping in as Stephen's replacement. On joining the show, Eddie expressed: "It's bittersweet as whilst I'm delighted to be taking part in the new series I'm gutted for Stephen and wish him a speedy recovery. Dancing On Ice is a show I've always wanted to do. It's a challenge I think I'm going to relish."
