Gogglebox’s Stephen Lustig-Webb breaks silence on shock exit after quitting Channel 4 show | The Sun

GOGGLEBOX stars Stephen Webb and Daniel Lustig have broken their silence after quitting the show after 10 years.

Stephen, 50, and husband Daniel, 43, who co-own a hair salon, revealed they have new opportunities in the pipeline, as they teased at a surprise reality venture.

TV favourite Stephen – who is one of the longest-running stars of the Channel 4 show – said it was the right time to bow out of the show, adding: "I think that chapter is closed for now."

Speaking exclusively to The Sun at the Who Cares Wins Awards last night, Stephen said: "It's 10 years and it's time to move on and see what else is out there.

"We filmed our final scenes last series and it's already been shown already.

"There have been a few opportunities in the pipeline but I'm not going to say too much just yet.

"If I was approached, I would like to do Celeb Bear Grylls – I think I could cope really well.

"But the worst part of the experience would be eating stuff – something like rats would be my nightmare."

The popular pair may not be off our screens for too long, as they hinted that they would like their own TV show.

"If we could do a duo TV show like Richard and Judy – I'll be Judy," Stephen laughed.

"I hope we get to do more reality TV – you never know I do love I'm A Celeb. I do like to eat.

"But I think that chapter of the Gogglebox is closed for now – I've handed over the baton.

"Once you step over to the other side, you can't go back."

"We don't obviously get to meet the other cast mates – they are all around the country, but our favourites are Dave and Shirley and Izzi and Ellie.

Gogglebox fans were devastated to learn that the hairdressers from Brighton had quit the show earlier this month.

Speaking about the reaction from fans, Daniel said: "Oh my god, we've had so many messages, haven't we.

"We live in Brighton and we get stopped on the street all the time, saying they're really upset.

"But everyone is really happy for us," with Stephen adding: "We've had some really nice messages, it's been lovely."

Although the pair will no longer be regular fixtures on the Channel 4 show, they will still be rushed off their feet with their real life jobs.

Stephen told us: "We run two very busy salons, he works in one and I work in the other – I can't get rid of him."

The telly favourites broke the sad news of their departure earlier this month.

In a joint statement, they said: "After careful consideration, Daniel and I have decided we will not be returning for the new series of Gogglebox.

"We feel the time is right to move on and explore other opportunities.

"We would both like to thank Channel 4 and Studio Lambert for letting us be part of this amazing, funny and heartwarming show.

"We are also extremely thankful to the cast and crew, or Gogglebox family as we call them and of course the fans, thank you for all of your love & support over the years."

They also shared a video of them laughing and joking together, and captioned the emotional post on Instagram: "After an incredible 10 years…."

The pair were inundated with messages from devastated viewers and their co-stars, with Izzi Warner writing beneath their post alongside crying emojis: "Gonna miss you both."
