Doctors debate if obese people should pay for NHS treatments
Good Morning Britain guests Chris van Tulleken and Doctor Eva Orsmond quickly began a heated debate and were keen to discuss the positive and negative effects of the drug and whether it should have been funded in the first place.
Campaigning for the drug, Chris explained: “All the data says that this will make the problem worse.
“Doctors already show more prejudice against people who live in larger bodies, against people with obesity than any other group.
“What we have to think about is who is affected by the obesity crisis primarily. We are all affected but it is people who gain the most from it and people who are forced by economic circumstances to eat this food.”
However, Eva opposed and exclaimed: “Healthy eating, educating people and empowering people to take responsibility but we also need to give people support and not just throwing them drugs.
“We are spending over 10 percent of NHS budget for treatment for type two diabetes which is purely a lifestyle disease.
“Obesity is affecting all economic groups and there are a lot of people who eat healthy food and become obese purely because they don’t know calories.”
Viewers of the show were left outraged at the discussion and asked why such a topic was being discussed on the morning show.
@CatherineMcCat fumed: “It really grinds my gears when people bang on about not being able to afford to eat healthy food on a limited budget! That Dr. is repeating this myth!”

@FlopsyPickle commented: “Not every obese person is unhealthy or will become unhealthy, it’s about metabolic health.
“We also need to stop using BMI as a measure of weight & health, it is so ridiculously flawed I’m continuously baffled by its use in the NHS #gmb #GoodMorningBritain.” (sic)
@lotslottie16 penned: “How much lower can this programme stoop? #GMB let’s attack those who are obese and make them pay for their own NHS treatment. How about smokers? Should they pay?”
@twitthickos said: “Until obesity is treated the same as smoking and alcohol, it will never be solved. Even if someone is eating a pizza a night, there is a psychological reason for it, even if it’s greed. #gmb.” (sic)

However, not all viewers were left annoyed with the debate as DiabeticDadUK agreed with Chris: “Absolutely brilliant by the guy on #GMB “I have no advice for people who want to lose weight. You have my love”
“Somebody understands the complexities of obesity and affordable & sustainable diet choices.” (sic)
On the other hand, @julesnhans thought Eva had a good point and tweeted: “Tbf she gave some good advice. Increase fibre, more veg, less cereal-based foods #gmb.” (sic)
