Holly Willoughby has decided to quit This Morning, with her full statement being issued on social media.

Taking to Instagram, the 42-year-old said: “I have let ITV know today that after 14 years, I will not be returning to This Morning.

“To everyone who has ever worked on the show over the years, thank you so so much.

“This is such a difficult goodbye, you are incredible and I forever will be proud of what we’ve done together.

“Thank you to everyone at ITV for being supportive. To every guest who has sat on our sofa, thank you.

“Most of all, thank you to the wonderful viewers. You’ve been so loyal, so supportive and the very best company every day.

“Richard and Judy said ‘we only look after this show, it will always belong to the viewers’. It’s been an honour to just be part of its story and I know this story has many chapters left to go.

“Sadly, however, I now feel I have to make this decision for me and my family.

“I will miss you all so much. Holly”

The shocking news comes after the presenter faced a difficult year.

Her This Morning co-star and former close Phillip Schofield left in May after admitting to an affair with a younger male colleague.

This followed a string of complaints made against the pair last year over “Queuegate,” which saw Holly and Phil accused of “jumping the queue” at the late Queen’s lying in state in September 2022.

Holly has fronted the ITV daytime show since 2009, and immediately worked alongside Phillip.

Her departure leaves This Morning’s main presenting position open, and it’s currently unknown who might step in.

Since Phillip’s exit, Josie Gibson, Craig Doyle and Friday presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Learty have hosted with Holly.

It could be that the presenters continue to host the show on a rotating basis.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
