I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! will be back on Sunday and the ITV series will return to the Australian jungle for the first time in two years. Over the past week, the celebrity contestants have been arriving in Australia as they prepare for the next three weeks. Some of the big names include Boy George, Mike Tindall and Scarlette Douglas.

However, the latest late sign-up has certainly left ITV viewers divided.

Former Health Secretary Matt Hancock is the latest celebrity to land in Australia and will enter the jungle as a late entry.

The news of the MP’s appearance has outraged some fans, with many threatening to “boycott” I’m A Celebrity because of the sign-up.

Many fans are unhappy with how Hancock dealt with the coronavirus pandemic after he broke the rules.

Taking to social media, Nini fumed: “I will be boycotting #ImACelebrityGetMeOutOfHere I can not support a show that has @MattHancock trying to boost his self-esteem when he allowed covid patients into my grandma’s care home.”

Cath Ravy tweeted: “I say *Boycott I’m a Celebrity * it’s shameful!!! they are all in it for the money #itv#matthancock#raging.” (sic)

While Paul Bouchier raged: “Have you completely lost the plot? @ITV #ImACeleb @antanddec How dare Matt Hancock get any airtime or favourable exposure after what he did and was part of. #disgusting #boycott.” (sic)

“@imacelebrity why would you allow @MattHancock to take part….do you remember covid when he allowed elderly people to die sending them back into care homes, wasting loads of money on PPE, this is a disgrace and many will boycott the show,” user @CColtrini added.

User @calgacuspicti went on to say: “THERES ENOUGH RODENTS IN THE JUNGLE!!! NO NEED FOR MATT HANCOCK TO CONTRIBUTE !! BOYCOTT IM A CELEBRITY!!” (sic)

User @thanratt penned: “Disgusted! I will encourage everyone I speak to boycott this show. Shame on ITV & I’m a Celebrity in making this decision to have @MattHancock as a contestant. Our loved ones died as a result of his actions.”

Other viewers have refused to watch the show, with user @missgrumpy saying: “People should boycott the program I won’t be watching now.”

“Boycott of the programme & the associated advertisers is required to get Hancock removed,” Dave Sargent argued.

However, some fans were looking forward to seeing a different side of the MP.

Hector Crosbie tweeted: “I am no Matt Hancock fan that’s for sure but am I the only person that thinks more of him for doing I’m a celebrity? I think it’s a great thing for him to do. Everyone is entitled to a holiday.”

Tim Slater said: “I was excited for @BoyGeorge he will be great a great booking, I think Matt Hancock will bring in the viewers too for sure, it will be great watching him do every trial.”

The former Health Secretary has also defended his decision for going into the Australian jungle.

He explained that he hadn’t had “too many pina Coladas” and wanted to connect with his younger audiences.
