Im A Celebs Owen Warner dubbed the new Joey Essex as he wins fans over with naivety

Hollyoaks star Owen Warner has already become a firm favourite amongst I'm a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! fans, despite the new series' premiere only having aired last night.

It seems that the 23-year-old soap actor – who has been dubbed 'the new Joey Essex' – has won over a multitude of viewers already, after his rib-tickling interactions with his fellow campmates have seen him poke himself in the eye, become engrossed by creepy crawlies and even ask Boy George what his name is…

And fans have taken to Twitter to praise the young contestant whilst simultaneously comparing his nature to that of TOWIE's Joey, who stole the hearts of the nation after competing on the show in 2013.

One delighted viewer wrote: "The spirit of Joey Essex has entered owen Warner and I'm here for it #imaceleb."

"Owen is definitely the next joey essex after he poked his own eye on purpose to see what it felt like," added another.

A third tweeted: "SNAKES THAT CAN'T SWIM Owen this season's Joey Essex omg", referring to the moment the actor revealed his biggest fear.

Another questioned: "Is Owen related to Joey Essex by any chance? The similarities are uncanny", whilst a fifth fan continued with the comparison, "Owen is gonna be giving Joey Essex a run for his money I think #ImACeleb".

Another amused viewer tweeted: "Why's Owen so adorable ffs."

Upon first meeting of his fellow campmates, Owen appeared to have no idea who any of them were, including Culture Club legend Boy George.

And things appeared to go from bad to worse, for after having told Owen his name, Boy George was left with the responsibility of letting Owen know the profession of their co-star Scarlette Douglas.

"She's from A Place In The Sun," the 80s singer explained, to which a seemingly clueless Owen replied: "Whereabouts?"

"No, like the TV show," Boy George told him, leaving fans equally amused.

One fan took to Twitter to make a jibe at the hilarity: "Owen is asking 'where abouts' when being told Scarlette is from A Place In The Sun stop it [laughing emojis]".

"Can we take a moment to appreciate Owen in last night's #ImACeleb – 'she's from a place in the sun', 'oh where abouts?'", another mocked.

Ex-TOWIE star Joey – Owen's 'dupe' – landed an impressive fourth place in 2013, losing out to top three finalists Lucy Pargeter, David Emanuel and series winner Kian Egan.

The former reality star was famed at the time for his innocent naivety on the show, having learnt what a stick insect is, dubbing a large lizard "a dragon", and being taught how to tell the time by campmate Amy Willerton.
