Katherine Ryan shaken as she learns of three tragic deaths in her 'heartbroken' family | The Sun

KATHERINE Ryan was left shaken after she learned of three tragic deaths in her 'heartbroken' family.

The Canadian comic took part in hit BBC series Who Do You Think You Are? and made some startling – and upsetting – discoveries.

Katherine, 40, lives in the UK but during Monday's repeated episode she travelled to Nova Scotia and on to Newfoundland back in her home country.

She discovered her 5x great grandparents were cod traders, but sadly lost their lives in a tragic incident.

A historian provided Katherine with a document which revealed an ancestor died at sea as he escorted precious cargo back to his parents.

His death lead to the collapse of the family fishing business and left them "in ruin".

In a further tragic twist, her ancestor's father Giles died just weeks later "of a broken heart", followed by his other son days later.

Katherine visited her great grandparent's grave and said: "He had such a tragic end losing his son then losing his livelihood and then losing his own life."

However, Katherine did receive some good news during the episode, as she discovered the family had moved to Canada from England.

With a smile she said: "I knew I was English" and explained how she had always felt the UK was her "real home".
