Love Island’s Maura Higgins apologises for getting one item ‘banned’ in villa

Love Island's Maura Higgins believe she is the reason why ITV bosses imposed a ban on fake tan.

Last year, fellow ex-Islander Chloe Burrows revealed that producers of the dating show had stopped contestants from bringing fake tan and eyelash extensions during her season in 2021.

Speaking at the time, Burrows said she was shocked at the rule, adding: "I'm fake tan and eyelashes 'til I die and then I went in there and they were like, 'Yeah you're not allowed fake tan because of the bedsheets'."

Now, Irish bombshell Maura thinks she is reason why the valuable item was banned from the villa.

Speaking to Insider, the former ring girl said fake tan was one of the main things she had brought with her.

"But I've heard they've banned fake tans, and I said to myself, 'Thank God that I did it when I was allowed'," she admitted.

She then confessed she might have been responsible for bosses pulling the plug on the product, saying she had ruined the bedsheets several times.

"I caused the ban because I ruined everything in that villa and I did not care. I'm an Irish girl and I need my fake tan," she quipped.

She later apologised to all future contestants, saying: "It's probably my fault."

Maura first appeared on screens on the seventh season of the hit ITV2 show in 2019, making it to the final with professional dancer Curtis Pritchard.

Despite placing fourth overall, Higgins became a fan-favourite with her zero-tolerance attitude with the other Islanders, alongside her Irish charm.

The model also said that ITV bosses had to push her to "get glammed up" for the night's events, because she did not want to party every night.

She pointed out: "If I had my way I'd be in my pyjamas all day and all night."

Maura is going from strength to strength in her career, currently starring as the social ambassador for the American version of the show.

In her new role on the show being broadcast on Peacock, Higgins interviews each of the Islanders as they are dumped from the Island.

Higgins also told the publication that she believes the gig is perfect for her, having been through the experience herself.

"It's that we can both relate to each other," she said.
