An artist has been overwhelmed with orders after tweeting that she’s ‘desperate’ and ‘short of covering her bills this month.’

Anna Hamilton, a professional wildlife and pet portrait artist from Poole, took to Twitter yesterday in a plea for support.

Alongside an example of her work, she wrote: ‘I hate doing this, but I am desperate for sales, as currently a few hundred pounds short of being able to cover my bills this month.

‘Please, if you’ve ever thought about buying from me, now would be a great time. Even if all you can do is retweet this, I’d be so grateful.

‘I haven’t slept properly for days, I feel ill with stress and honestly don’t know what to do other than ask for help. Anything you can do would be so very much appreciated.’

Anna’s entire online shop sold out in less than 24 hours, with thousands of people on social media rallying around her with support.

One person tweeted ‘Just placed an order too!! Can’t wait to get your lovely cards and two lovely prints for my walls! Good luck to you!! We’re all struggling right now.’

Another wrote ‘I’ve just ordered some lovely cards and a print. Hope things pick up for you Anna you’re amazingly talented.’

Some people didn’t even get the chance to purchase anything as the stock sold out so quickly.

Promising future orders, someone added: ‘Your work is so exquisite Anna, so lovely to see that everything has been purchased in your shop! I will pop back and look again when you’ve restocked x’

Another Twitter user wrote: ‘I can’t afford to buy now but will certainly be able to at the end of the month.’

As well as selling out her store, generous people also came forward to offer help in other ways.

A web designer reached out and offered to help improve Anna’s website.

She said: ‘There are lots of little details I can see that would helps visitors to make purchases. Please feel free to reach out through DM anytime (after you filled all the orders you have gotten!)’

Overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support, Anna returned to Twitter after her original tweet yesterday to thank people.

She wrote: ‘Well I’m not sure what to say, I’m a bit dazed by the response to this, thank you all.

‘I’m at my ‘other job’ at the mo but will spend tonight responding to messages & emails. Will keep an eye on my website to make sure things are available to order too. Thank you so much.’

After support and website orders continued overnight, she added this morning: ‘Morning everyone, I’m overwhelmed by the support I’ve received from you all, I can’t thank you enough!

‘It will take me a good while to get your orders out, so I hope you don’t mind a bit of a wait while I put them all together.’

The artist also promised to try to respond to all of the DM’s and emails she’s received, adding: ‘Welcome to all new followers, if you like art, dogs and beautiful Dorset landscapes, you’ll like it here. I hope I can be a positive addition to your feed. Now…to work!’

Anna’s website explains that she used to be a Data Analyst who practiced art as a hobby – she decided to combine her passions and ‘take the leap to become a professional animal artist.’

Her website has since restocked a few items such as greetings cards which cost £3, coasters which cost £4 and bookmarks which are £2.50 – a few mini prints priced around £25 have also been restocked.

However, the larger pieces such as original framed drawings that go up to £225, all remain sold out.

One Twitter user wrote ‘Hi Anna, Could you send out a tweet when you have restocked? Would like to buy but (good news) everything seems to be sold out.’

This comes shortly after a similar situation that happened at Edinburgh Fringe festival.

The comedian was left in tears after her one woman play, ‘Sunsets’, was watched by only one woman in the audience

Earlier this month, comedian, Georgie Grier, performed to a near-sell out crowd at the festival today just 24 hours after only one person turned up the day before.

She had tweeted about what happened and also went viral, earning herself a wave of new supporters.

However, social media worked it’s magic and not only did her show almost sell out, she also got a lot of support from the public including established comedians like Jason Manford and Dara Ó Briain.
