Mike Tindall admits wife Zara’s surprising worry about him entering I’m A Celeb jungle

Mike Tindall has opened up about his wife Zara's concerns about him entering the I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! jungle.

The former rugby ace, 44, recent landed in Australia ahead of the launch of the 2022 series, which will start on Sunday 6 November, and is set to join celebrities such as Chris Moyles, Olivia Attwood, Boy George and Charlene White in the show's famous camp.

While many would be worried about their husband taking on bushtucker trials and living in the jungle for weeks, Mike's wife Zara, 41, who is the granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II, is more concerned about how he eats.

Mike opened up about his wife's reaction to his I'm A Celeb stint, saying: "Zara told me to go and be myself, which is all you can be. She said to go enjoy yourself and be yourself. Zara’s biggest worry is how loud I am when I eat.

"She will be very happy if someone comments about how loud I breathe when I eat because it’s always a point that she brings up. When your nose has been mangled as much as mine has it is just a byproduct."

The dad-of-three, who shares Mia, eight, Lena, four, and one year old Lucas with Zara, went on detail how supportive his wife has been and how their children have reacted to him being away from home.

"Obviously, it’s difficult but the saving grace is going to a country that we know very well, and Zara understands and gets it and that makes it a lot easier. It’s one of those things with the kids I’ve had a couple of phone calls while I’ve been here.

"They say they’re going to miss you when you leave but when you ring them, they’re like hi dad, bye. Then they are off doing whatever they do. I expected there to be more tears than there actually are."

However, the pair's three children are too young to watch the show, which will air at 9pm each evening, meaning it'll be down to Zara to keep them updated with Mike's progress in the jungle.

"With the kids it’ll be the case of they’d be in bed before the show goes out on a normal evening, so it’ll be down to Z to get them the highlights – only the good stuff probably," Mike explained.

Zara and Mike, who wed in 2011 after meeting in Australia in 2003, are used to spending periods of time apart, so the former rugby player's reality TV stint isn't set to impact them too much.

The 44 year old said: "Zara gets it and supports it – with both our careers, she goes away competing for weeks at a time and I always went on tours for 3-4 weeks in the summer, so our relationship has always been built to deal with that and we’re good at compartmentalising and finding ways to deal with it.”

The couple are also yet to decide whether Zara and their children will jet out to Oz to support Mike, and it may come to down to how far he gets on the show.

"We’re not entirely sure yet, we haven’t fully made that decision and it’s probably how deep into the show we go, and we have some work out here so if it got to the end then hopefully, she’d be able to come out and get some vitamin D in you," Mike added.

I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! begins on Sunday 6 November on ITV at 9pm.
