Pop Idols Sam and Mark unrecognisable after transformation into EastEnders icon

Pop Idol stars and children's TV presenters Sam and Mark underwent a dramatic transformation for Halloween, as they dressed up as an iconic EastEnders duo.

The music stars previously competed on the second series of Pop Idol in 2003, where they finished third and second respectively behind Michelle McManus.

However, more than 20 years later, the stars looked very different as they dressed up as EastEnders icons Shirley Carter and Heather Trott for a Halloween snap.

Taking to Twitter, the official Sam and Mark page shared a snap of the duo sat on a park bench in Albert Square, with Mark dressed as Shirley and Sam dressed as Heather.

Mark donned a black leather mini skirt, jacket and blonde wig for the snap, while Sam wore a brunette wig, red apron and matching coat for his outfit.

They captioned the post: "Happy Halloween," followed by a pumpkin.

Fans went wild for the transformation snap, with one sharing a photograph of the actual Shirley and Heather in EastEnders, alongside the comment "Spot on" followed by a laughing emoji.

Another said: "Brilliant," while a third added: "You've won Halloween. You win. That's that," followed by laughing emojis and dancing emojis.

"Love it," agreed another, while a fifth fan commented: "That is genius."

The compliments for their Halloween outfits continued to pour in, with more fans describing their costumes as "iconic."

"Miss seeing your silly faces on the telly," commented another fan, with others saying: "Costumes of the year go to you two."

Since coming runner up in the second series of Pop Idol, Sam and Mark became a duo, before releasing songs including a cover of The Beatles With A Little Help From My Friends, which entered at number one in the UK Singles Chart.

After making the transition into television to host TMi, Top Of The Pops Reloaded and Sam And Mark's Big Friday Wind-Up, the duo have since presented radio programmes for the BBC and are reported to currently host a show for Free Radio across Coventry and Warwickshire.
