Season five of The Crown to air two months after the Queen’s death, Netflix confirms

The Crown is coming back to Netflix for its fifth season in November, and fans are ecstatic after Netflix shared a teaser of the new series.

The sneak peek of The Crown's fifth series showed the breakdown of Princess Diana and now King Charles' marriage being revealed to the public.

Fans of the show will see actress Imelda Staunton, 66, portray the role of Queen Elizabeth II two months after the Queen died on Wednesday, November 9.

Her Majesty passed on 8 September.

The voiceover over the clip says: "Buckingham Palace is issuing this statement: It is with regret that the Prince and Princess of Wales are separating."

A news bulletin is then heard as it says: "There's uproar in Britain after Prince Charles bared his soul to the nation but the Princess of Wales upstaged her husband speaking about her marriage, her life and her future."

Princess Diana will be played by Elizabeth Debicki, 32, as fans saw the actress wearing a green jacket and skirt.

Charles – who will be played by 52 year old Dominic West – was seen wearing a dark suit as he sat on the chair.

While many will recall Emma Corrin, 26, playing Diana in the previous series, last year it was announced that Elizabeth would take over for the fifth and sixth series.

The Great Gatsby's Elizabeth shared last year: "Princess Diana's spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many.

"It is my privilege and honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one."

Royal expert Omid Scoobie shared the news of The Crown returning on Twitter, by writing: "No delays. @Netflix have announced they will go ahead with #TheCrown’s season five release on its original scheduled date: November 9. The episodes will focus on Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, and the treatment of Princess Diana. Trailer to drop shortly."

One fan tweeted: "It's about damn time," while another shared their excitement: "So excited!!"

Someone wrote: "ELIZABETH DEBICKI IS COMING TO US," before another shared: "Let's go."

It was reported that The Crown resumed production after pausing filming in Barcelona for a day out of “respect” for the late monarch. The show bosses halted filming to mourn Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8 at Balmoral Castle at the age of 96.

It was believed that they resumed filming after just 24 hours, but it was suspended once again on Monday, 19 September, on the day of Her Majesty's funeral service.

A spokesperson for Netflix told the MailOnline: "Filming will also be suspended on the day of Her Majesty The Queen's funeral.”
