Following 12 weeks of intense training and dancing, the long list of celebrities were whittled down to just four finalists. Each of the famous faces from various walks of life were put through their paces with a fresh dance routine to learn each week. While some got better, others couldn’t handle the heat and ended up getting eliminated.
This year’s four finalists were nature cameraman and presenter Hamza Yassin, sports host and broadcaster Helen Skelton, singer Molly Rainford and X Factor star Fleur East.
Sadly, singer and actor Will Mellor just missed out on the final following a tense semi-final which saw Fleur just pipping him to the post.
However, he was back this evening along with the other former contestants from this year’s line-up to grace the dance floor one last time.
There was also a musical interlude in the form of a performance from Florence + the Machine as the voting took place.
Who won Strictly Come Dancing 2022?
Hamza Yassin has won this year’s series of Strictly Come Dancing with their partner Jowitz Przystal.
Hamza broke down in tears as he was left in disbelief over the win.
They managed to win over the nation with their trio of dance numbers.
Each of the couples were tasked with three dance routines: Judges’ Pick, Favourite Dance and Show Dance.
Prior to the final, Hamza was being touted as the favourite to win the competition after his sweet personality and dance moves proved a hit with the judges and the public alike.
He was also the frontrunner among the bookmakers who put him down with a 4/9 chance from Coral and PaddyPower.
The second most likely winner of the contest was Helen with odds of 13/8 from bet365 and 7/4 from William Hill.
Molly was in third place with 17/10 from Unibet and 7/4 from SkyBet, while Fleur was in last place with odds of 50/1 from most off the bookmakers.
The Strictly outcome is always decided by the public with the power taken away from the judging panel, who can simply offer their professional opinion as they voting lines are thrown over to the viewers.
The latest series of Strictly has a momentous one with the show returning to Blackpool for the first time since the pandemic in 2020.
Additionally, Strictly paid tribute to the BBC 100, marking a century of the broadcaster with the couples performing iconic pieces of music from BBC programmes.
Strictly also saw Anton Du Beke named as a permanent judge after veteran Bruno Tonioli stepped down due to his commitments to Dancing With the Stars in America.
Anton was a hit with Strictly fans and even ended up winning a National Television Awards as voted for by the public for Best Judge.
Fans were also graced with four new dancing professionals this year with European cup winner Vito Coppola, Chinese National Champion Carlos Gu, former Under 21 British National Champion Lauren Oakley and Latin dance champion Michelle Tsiakkas all joining.
Both Vito and Carlos made it into the final in their first year on Strictly, which is no easy feat.
Although Strictly may have finished for now, viewers will be getting the annual Christmas edition with a little bit of festive sparkle.
Six celebrities will be battling it out to win points with the judges and take away a special Yuletide trophy for their efforts.
The Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special will be airing on BBC One on Christmas Day at 5.10pm
