Strictly Come Dancing’s Tony Adams apologises for dropping partner Katya Jones

Strictly Come Dancing contestant and former footballer Tony Adams has apologised to his dance partner Katya Jones after he dropped her during rehearsals.

In the apology, which was posted on Twitter, the former Arsenal player also made reference to the time he dropped his teammate Steve Morrow, 52, and broke his arm.

Taking to Twitter this week, the football manager posted some pictures of himself performing the Charleston with Katya to the tune My Old Man’s A Dustman by Foster & Allen and told his 86,300 followers: “That was a little bit better – but a lot more fun."

He added a clip from rehearsals saying: “Thanks to everyone who voted for me – am trying my hardest to get it right, but at times I revert to type. Scroll to see my Stevie Morrow moment in training. Sorry @Mrs_katjones (and Steve. Still sorry after all these years…)”

In the clip, Tony can be seen holding Katya on one shoulder before losing his balance and swinging her into a dustbin. He's added an arrow and written "Steve Morrow" as Katya can be seen laying outstretched on the floor, before fortunately springing back up.

Tony is of course referring to the moment in 1993 when he dramatically dropped his teammate in the League Cup final.

Strictly Come Dancing's Tony Adams' wife, Poppy, melted viewers' hearts on Saturday with a sweet comment about her husband.

During the latest instalment, Tony, 55, performed a Charleston to My Old Man’s A Dustman by Foster and Allen with pro Katya Jones. The duo put on an energetic performance in matching flat caps, shirts and waistcoats and bounded around the room.

Prior to the performance, Tess Daly spoke to Tony's wife Poppy, who he married in 2004, in the audience. Warming everyone's hearts, she said: "I've never been so proud or so in love with him! He's going to absolutely nail it and I'm going to probably cry!"

During the judges' feedback, Shirley Ballas, 62, gave them a standing ovation and credited Tony for his confidence, with Anton Du Beke telling them that he "loved" it.

Craig Revel Horwood however didn't hold back when he told them it was "stiff, stiff, stiff". They received a total of 22 points.

This week is "movie week" and Tony and Katya will be dancing a Samba to You Sexy Thing from The Full Monty.

Kaye Adams was "gutted" to be the first celebrity to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing 2022 after losing the dreaded dance-off to Bros star Matt Goss.

The Loose Women presenter, 59, found herself in the bottom two with Matt, 54, after the first public vote of the series, and it was a three-to-one decision from the judges.

Kaye was paired with Strictly pro Kai Widdrington, 27, whilst Matt is dancing with Nadiya Bychkova, 33.

After Craig Revel Horwood and Motsi Mabuse voted for Kaye to go home, it was Anton Du Beke's vote that sealed her fate, although head judge Shirley Ballas said she would have chosen to save Kaye and send Matt home.

Speaking about the judges' decisions, Kaye said: "It was the right result and I did make mistakes, and when it comes to that high-pressured situation that’s what happens."
