Strictly week 4 sparks controversy, viewers in tears and second celeb booted off

Strictly: Nikita and Gorka are eliminated

Strictly Come Dancing’s fourth week had many talking points as the celebrity cast and professional dancers performed their hardest in a bid to avoid being voted out of the BBC dance competition.

While all the hopefuls gave it their all, judges unanimously voted Nikita Kanda as the second contestant to leave following a dance-off with Zara McDermott.

After learning of her departure, the radio presenter said she felt as though she let her professional partner Gorka Marquez down.

She added: “I’ve had the best time and I love all my Strictly family, I’m going to miss you all. This has been a dream come true, I’m so grateful.

“I’ve got to say the biggest thank you to Gorka, he has been the biggest support and I’ve had the best time ever.”

Gorka reassured Nikita that she hadn’t let him down and that she should be “proud” of herself, especially with no dance experience.

Elsewhere on the night, Karen Hauer and Eddie Kadi received the first 10 of the series by head judge Shirley Ballas.

The dancing duo were commended for their smooth Couple’s Choice routine set to the Men in Black theme tune as part of movie week.

Shirley’s high score certainly left people talking, including ex pro James Jordan who claimed the routine was “not Strictly”.

He also shared a poll encouraging viewers to vote for whether they thought the routine was worth a 10, to which 96.5 per cent of the vote claimed it wasn’t.

Despite this, many others praised the pair on social media and said they did deserve the controversial 10.

Eddie and Karen’s score put them second on the leaderboard with a total of 34 out of 40 points.

Just ahead of them by one point was presenter Angela Scanlon and her professional partner Carlos Gu.

The couple impressed the judges and viewers with their Charleston routine to Who’s Got The Pain by Gwen Verdon & Bob Fosse.

At the other end of the leaderboard was Jody Cundy and Jowita Przystal, who scored 20 points.

Also on the evening, professional dancer Amy Dowden made a surprise appearance to read out the terms and conditions.

The 33-year-old had to pull out of this year’s series as she continues her battle with breast cancer.

Giving an update on the show, the dancer said she was over halfway through her chemotherapy and treatment.

She excitedly added: “I can’t wait to be back with you all.”

Many viewers on X, formerly known as Twitter, said they were left in tears over her return.

One wrote: “Just burst into tears when Amy Dowden appeared on my screen. Keep fighting!”

A second commented: “The winner of this year’s Strictly is Amy Dowden. Brave, inspirational and a beacon of loveliness. You’ve got this Amy #Strictly.”

A third added: “Oh in tears Amy Dowden – love you, you got this #Strictly.”

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
