The Apprentice contestant fired after disastrous task as Lord Sugar weighs in

Lord Alan Sugar has given candidate Sohail Chowdhary the boot in Thursday's episode (February 16) of The Apprentice.

In the latest installment of the BBC reality show, the candidates were tasked with designing lunchboxes for school children with an added element of designing a mobile app.

Martial arts school owner and instructor Sohail led his group, following through with a pirate-themed lunchbox and app.

However, the savvy business amateur failed to impress Lord Sugar and found himself in the bottom three after he bombed a pitch with industry experts.

After bumping heads with fellow competitor Marnie Swindells and the flop of his pirate’s treasure chest lunchbox idea, he faced a boardroom grilling by Lord Alan Sugar alongside his fellow candidates Marnie and Bradley Johnson.

In tense scenes, Lord Sugar was unafraid to put the contestants into the hot seat as he grilled them about their major hiccups in the challenge.

However, after weighing up his options, it was martial arts enthusiast Sohail who was fired after Lord Sugar’s dressing down.

After the show, the competitor said the process was “a lot more tricky” than he realised from watching on TV.

Speaking after his exit, Sohail said: “It’s very different compared to what you expect.

“Everyone is watching the show, and you’re like ‘, Oh, they’re a bunch of idiots. I can do that’. Then when you’re on the show, you become one of those idiots. It’s a lot more tricky compared to what it looks like on TV.

“But either way, I’m so happy that I did it because it’s been such a surreal experience. The exposure has been insane, the amount of opportunities that come off the back of it has been incredible.”

The martial arts school owner said he felt his firing was “fair”, and he would no longer stand by the lunchbox he vouched for in the boardroom, saying: “When it comes down to it, a lot of the mistakes were there.”

He added: “I remember leaving the house in the morning, and I was there saying goodbye to the house team, saying, ‘This is most likely the last time you’re going to see me’.”
