WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Chicago PD.

Chicago PD fans were disappointed to say goodbye to Detective Erin Lindsey but why did actress Sophia Bush leave?

Erin had been in the NBC police drama from the very start when the show made its debut back in 2014 and starred in the first four seasons.

It was then in the series four finale Fork in the Road in 2017 that Erin was written out of the drama as having moved to New York City to work with the FBI.

Of course, fans were disappointed to see Erin leave Chicago PD as she was the first original member of the series who had been in multiple outings, to make her departure.

Rather than leaving to explore new opportunities, the reason for her exit was to do those with her colleagues.

The same year that Bush left in 2017, it was reported that NBC had opened an investigation into Hank Voight star Jason Beghe’s behaviour on set.

There had been several complaints of “volatile behaviour” and “offensive comments” the previous year.

Since the launch of the investigation, Beghe had received a coach to help with his anger management issues and issued a public apology.

While she didn’t name Beghe by name, during Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, Bush said her reasons to leave were personal as a result of “a consistent onslaught barrage of abusive behaviour”.

It was at a similar time that the former stars of One Tree Hill and crew members were working on a letter accusing series creator Mark Schwahn of sexual assault and physical and emotional manipulation.

She revealed she was subsequently told to only discuss one issue, Shwahn or Beghe in public by her rep.

Bush explained in an episode of the Drama Queens podcast with herself, Hilarie Burton and Bethany Joy Lenz: “When #MeToo was breaking that October, a story was coming out about my coworker in Chicago.

“My rep said to me, ‘You’re going to have to pick. You can either tell the story about your first boss or you can tell the story about your coworker, but you can’t tell both because then it looks like it’s your fault.’ That was professional advice.”
