Who is Philip Khoury?

Philip Khoury is an award-winning pastry chef who grew up in suburban Sydney.

While completing a bachelor's in design from Western Sydney University, someone suggested he study to become a pastry chef.

So straight out of university, he went into pastry school where he studied patisserie and the rest is history.

Khoury is working on his first book called A New Way To Bake to help anyone looking for guidance on incredible patisserie – made from plants.

It will be published by Hardie Grant on September 7, 2023.

In August 2023, it was announced that Khoury will appear in the semi-finals of Bake Off: The Professionals with his signature Dawn of a New Day dessert.

What restaurants has Philip Khoury worked in?

Khoury started his career at Australia’s most awarded restaurant Quay, before launching hundreds of patisserie lines in Australia.

He worked at Shangri La Sydney with Anna Polyviou and ended up as head of Research and development with acclaimed patissier Adriano Zumbo before joining Harrods in 2018.

He became head pastry chef just before Christmas and is now pioneering plant-based desserts.

The 31-year-old wants the world to know that plant-based food should not be overlooked at the counter.

“There’s a negative bias around vegan desserts that they are less than or inferior to their traditional counterparts and I think to a certain extent this is to be expected,” he told Sydney Morning.

“It is unfortunate, but it is such a new area and the knowledge and techniques are so new.

"Where we have had eggs and dairy in pastry for as long as pastry has existed, we’ve never had to question their presence in our food or if there was another way to achieve beautiful desserts without them.”

Is Philip Khoury married and does he have children?

It is not known if Philip is married or has any children.

By the looks of it, he likes to keep his personal life private and away from the spotlight.
