A California woman was charged with kidnapping after she posed as a nurse and snuck into a hospital where she attempted to steal a newborn baby before fleeing.

Jesenea Miron, 23, of Moreno Valley, was arrested on Friday after she allegedly attempted to steal a baby from the Riverside University Health System Medical Center the day before around 10.30am, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

She reportedly disguised herself as a new nurse to gain access to the ward and then ‘entered a patient’s hospital room and identified herself as a nurse.’

Miron then tried to take the baby, but was confronted by hospital staff, who contacted security.

It is unknown if Miron was targeting a specific baby or it was picked at random.

Jesenea Miron, 23, of Moreno Valley, was arrested on Friday after she attempted to steal a baby at a hospital around 10.30am on Thursday. She fled after being confronted by hospital staff and was arrested at her home on Friday

By the time security and law enforcement arrived, she had fled the scene.

She was apprehended at her home on Weber Street, according to the police, and other ‘items of evidentiary value’ were found inside the home. Authorities did not identify the items of interest.

According to court documents, obtained by Fox 11, Miron told authorities it would be ‘easy’ to steal a baby and officers reportedly found ultrasound sonograms from two other hospitals.

Miron has been taken to the Robert Presley Detention Center on a $1million bail.

She is expected to appear in court on Tuesday.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities try to determine how the young woman managed to get inside the ward without setting off alarm bells.

The CEO of Riverside, Jennifer Cruikshank, said the hospital system ‘has multiple layers of security to protect the safety and well-being of patients and staff.’

Security is also being ‘reviewed and reinforced’ and additional deputies are on the property, according to The New York Times.
