Harry and Meghan accused of trying to GAG teachers and students

Harry and Meghan are accused of trying to GAG teachers and students at NYC school they visited in 2021 ‘by prohibiting them from making negative social media posts now or in the future’

  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited Public School 123, which is among one of the poorest in New York City, in September 2021
  • Meghan, 42, read to second-grade students from her picture book The Bench while Harry, 39, sat down with the children
  • But advisors from their Archewell foundation demanded the school sign a clause which banned anyone from making negative comments, according to The Sun

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been accused of trying to gag teachers and students at a New York school they visited two years ago.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Public School 123 Mahalia Jackson, which is among one of the poorest in New York City, in September 2021.

Meghan, 42, was dressed in a $5,000 suit and Cartier jewelry to read to second-grade students from her picture book The Bench while Harry, 39, sat down with the children.

But advisors from their Archewell foundation demanded the Harlem school sign a clause which banned anyone from making negative comments, according to The Sun.

The request was also related to any posts on social media ‘now or in the future’. Sources close to the Archewell foundation have insisted that standard practice was followed.

Prince Harry and Meghan’s visit to Public School 123 was documented in their Netflix series.

The former suits actress wore a $5,000 suit and Cartier jewelry for the visit at the school, where 95 percent of children are classed as suffering economic hardship.

Freedom of information requests have revealed how the couple’s advisors at Archewell tried to protect their image.

It also highlights how their team banned four British newspapers from attending an event at the World Trade Center, even though it is a publicly owned building.

Plans for the Sussexes’ trip began six months before the event and it was managed by Toya Holness, a member of the couple’s PR team.

Archewell representatives emailed the Department of Education three days before the visit to Public School 123.

They requested the ‘appearance release’ which included the gagging clause and asked them to run it by their lawyers.

Another email from NYC schools press secretary Danielle Filson had asked for the best way to get it all agreed but it is not clear if the Sussexes’ request was signed.

The parties also shared opinions about the language used in the Department of Education press release.

Filson wanted to remove reference to The Bench and said: ‘Just wanted to make it a bit less promotion-ey.’

The revelation comes after Prince Harry and Meghan made a surprise appearance at Kevin Costner’s ‘One805 Live!’ charity event for first responders on Friday.

The couple were joined by their good friends Oprah and Ellen DeGeneres as they took another step into Hollywood royalty.

The fundraising event – where ‘last chance’ tables cost $12,000 – was hosted at the $26million oceanside estate of Costner in Summerland and included noteworthy guests, including Katy Perry’s parents.

Harry wore black while Meghan opted for a sophisticated, chic look, in a monochrome jacket with her hair pulled back ‘clean-girl’ style.

Upon their arrival, the Duke and Duchess – who have just returned from a PDA-packed appearance at the Invictus Games in Germany – were spotted backstage chatting with Costner, his VIP guests, and senior police and firefighting service officials.

Harry and Meghan were introduced onstage as special guests and Meghan presented Kevin with an honorary award – before doing a mini Royal-style walkabout to greet other attendees.

Meghan, who’s recently pulled the plug on her Archetypes podcast, beamed for the camera throughout the event, while Harry was at times caught staring into the distance.

Following their on stage moment, the couple made their way toward the VIP area where they were stopped by pop singer Katy Perry’s mom and dad and posed for a selfie.
