HATE preacher Anjem Choudary is facing trial for terror offences after he allegedly encouraged support for his banned militant group.

The 56-year-old was arrested at his home in Ilford, East London, last month.

Choudary appeared at the Old Bailey today via videolink charged with directing a terrorist organisation.

He is also accused of being a member of the proscribed organisation Al-Muhajiroun (ALM) and addressing meetings to encourage support for the banned group.

Choudary appeared in court alongside 28-year-old Khaled Hussein, who lives in Canada.

He was detained at Heathrow before being charged with membership of ALM.

No pleas were entered during the hearing but a provisional trial date was listed for May 20.

Both men were remanded into custody to next appear at Kingston Crown Court on January 5.

Al-Muhajiroun was banned by the British Government in 2005.

It has been linked to a number of terrorists, including Usman Khan who stabbed two people to death on London Bridge in 2019.
