Kate’s Middleton’s most expensive £7,300 dress that she’s only worn twice

The Princess of Wales is known all over the world for her incredible sense of style and her unwavering dedication to her many important charities and patronages.

The sizeable impact that she has had on the fashion industry alone has been dubbed as "The Kate Effect", as whatever she appears in typically sells out in minutes.

Kate continues to wow the crowds at her public appearances. Whether she is appearing in a floor length gold Jenny Packham gown for a glittering film premiere, or arriving in London to hand out a fashion award, the Princess has her public image down to a tee.

While Kate has brought us many iconic and unforgettable looks, one of them has an incredibly large price tag and you certainly won't guess which dress it is.

While Kate has pledged her normality several times by staying loyal to many high street chains, she is well-known for having her favourite designers. One of her top choices is Alexander McQueen and she has been pictured wearing his designs on numerous occasions.

From Prince Louis’s christening to the Earthshot Prize and even her famous wedding dress, the Princess has chosen her outfits from the late designer’s collection time and time again – including one very expensive piece.

The Princess first wore this jaw-dropping tiered black and green floral gown to the BAFTA Awards in 2017. She completed the look with a sleek up-do and carried an Alexander McQueen clutch bag.

Known for recycling her outfits, she was then pictured wearing the dress again at the Portrait Gala in 2019. It was slightly reworked this time with sleeves that covered her shoulders, rather than the thinner straps.

According to Harper’s Bazaar, the dress cost an eye-watering £7,304.

Bethan Holt, the fashion news and features director at The Telegraph previously praised her dress sense and explained why everything she wears sell out in minutes.

She told Harper’s Bazaar: "She really enhanced the image of the royal family… She’s this glamorous figure people want to know about and has helped secure the next generation of the British royal family."

Holt continued: “She understands if she wears something, it will make an impact and have meaning. Not only does it enhance the message of what she’s doing that day, but also, she knows it attracts more people to what she’s doing.

“The sad truth of the world is, if she’s visiting a charity and she’s wearing a brand-new dress that’s really pretty, that picture will fly around the world, and lots more people will know about the charity. That’s just how the world works. She understands that and has grasped onto it.”

In recent months, Kate has gone from wearing floaty and floral dresses to providing us with regular masterclasses in the art of power dressing.

Speaking to OK! about Kate’s growing preference for a tailored silhouette, Celebrity Stylist and Royal Fashion Expert Miranda Holder previously said: “Kate’s grace and poise could make the most casual of outfits look refined. But as her role has grown within the Royal Family, so has her style repertoire.

“She’s wearing trouser suits as her outfit of choice, certainly for royal appointments. The overall transition has been from the pretty, floaty and playful to the more refined, regal and sophisticated – a wardrobe befitting our future Queen.”
