The other royal couple who moved to the US long before Harry and Meghan

Sophie Winkleman will be well known toTV fans thanks to her role as Big Suze in popular comedy Peep Show.

But many won’t know the 42 year old actress is also a member of theRoyal Family who is regularly seen appearing alongsideKing Charles andPrince William at high-profile occasions.

Sophiemarried Lord Frederick Windsor at Hampton Court Palace on September 12, 2009 in front of all the senior members of The Firm.

Frederick is the son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent – making him first cousin once removed of the lateQueen Elizabeth II and 52nd in the line of succession to the British throne.

Following their wedding, the pair relocated to California – long beforePrince Harry andMeghan Markle made a similar move afterstepping back from senior royal duties in 2020.

Sophie and Fredrick moved to the US so the actress could focus on her career. Their first child, daughter Maud, was born in LA in 2013. The couple then moved back to the UK and welcomed second daughter Isabella in 2016.

Sophie Lara Winkleman was born in Primrose Hill, London, in 1980 to Cindy Black and Barry Winkleman and is the half-sister of Strictly Come Dancing and Traitors host, Claudia Winkleman.

Officially known as Lady Frederick Windsor, Sophie has joined the Royal Family on Buckingham Palace's balcony many times before and is regularly pictured at national events.


She recently attended the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June last year and then herfuneral three months later in September. She was also a guest at the 2011 wedding of Prince William andKate Middleton.

As well as starring as Big Suze in Peep Show, Sophie appeared as Zoey in Two and a Half Men and as the elder version of Susan in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.

The actress, who studied at Cambridge University, where she met Lord Frederick Windsor, has previously spoken of her experience of marrying into the Royal Family.

In an interview withThe Times in 2020, she said: "I haven’t had a single negative experience. The Queen’s been wonderful, Prince Charles has been wonderful, Prince William’s been heaven.

“They’d never tell me off at all if I wanted to play some [racy] role. Everyone’s looked after me. Oh God, please don’t make me sound too gushing."

Sophie and Frederick sent their children to Thomas's School in Battersea, South West London – the same school where Prince George and Princess Charlotte started their education.

In 2017, the actress was involved in a car crash in Cambridgeshire and later told how the shocking experience left her a couple of millimetres away from paralysis.
