Meghan Markle, 41, has been in the UK for roughly two weeks after she initially travelled to attend charity events with her husband Prince Harry, 38. The Queen sadly died on September 8 at the age of 96, meaning the Duchess of Sussex was in Europe in time for the mourning period and the funeral.

Meghan stepped out at Westminster Abbey in a Stella McCartney cape dress in black.

According to the website, the gown was a “stretch cady cape sleeved dress in black” and “featured a high neckline and concealed zip at back”.

What was symbolic about this choice?

The Duchess owns the same dress in navy, which she previously wore to the Queen’s 92nd birthday celebrations in 2018.

What other hidden meanings did Meghan’s outfit have?

The Duchess opted for a black hat designed by Stephen Jones for Dior.

This hat is a “dramatic hat with a perfectly placed navy grosgrain bow to balance the elongated brim”, according to the website Meghan’s Mirror.

Meghan had actually worn the white version of this hat during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June, earlier this year.

How did Meghan accessorise?

The Duchess chose to wear pearl stud earrings, which were gifted to her by the Queen in 2018.

Twitter user @TvKhaleesi said: “Meghan’s whole look was about the Queen today. Talk about being thoughtful.”

The Duchess also chose to accessorise with her favourite Cartier ‘Love’ yellow gold bracelet which she has worn many times before.

For added Hollywood glamour, Meghan could be seen carrying a new pair of Maison Valentino black signature ‘VLogo’ gloves.

At points, the Duchess did put the gloves on to complete her all-black look.

These were leather gloves with VLOGO detail printed on them.

Unfortunately these gloves are no longer in stock, so it is unclear how much they cost Meghan at the time of purchase.

Royal fans took to social media to praise the Duchess’ style.

One fan, @paulaarsans wrote on Instagram: “Probably my favourite look of Meghan. So appropriate and elegant.”

In addition, @wistful0ne added: “Meghan looks very classy.”
