Hamilton goes into the race, the 12th of the season, still not having won one and sits down in sixth in the Drivers' Championship standings.

However the seven-time world champion, whose Mercedes car has been far slower than both Red Bulls and Ferraris, has achieved podiums in his last three races.

It seems the Mercedes car is starting to be able to compete more with the front runners in recent weeks, and a race win could be on the cards sooner rather than later.

The Brit has won two of the last three races in Le Castellet.

The 37-year-old's former teammate, Bottas is having a solid first season with Alfa Romeo.

The Fin sits ninth in the drivers standings, with more than nine times as many points as his rookie teammate Guangyu Zhou.

The 32-year-old has three top six finishes this season and has scored points in all but two of the races he has finished so far.

McLaren's Norris is seventh in the drivers' standings, leading effectively the 'best of the rest' pack behind the Red Bulls, the Ferraris and the Mercedes.

The young Brit has one podium so far this season but, like Bottas, has scored points in all but two of the races he's finished.

Defending champion Max Verstappen leads this year's Drivers' Championship, 38 points clear of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.

Leclerc is 19 points ahead of Verstappen's teammate Sergio Perez, who leads Leclerc's teammate, Carlos Sainz, by 18 points.

Red Bull also lead the Constructors' Championship, heading into France this weekend on 359 points.

Ferrari are in second currently with 303 points, while Mercedes are in third with 237.
