Coronation Street fans furious as Ed Bailey’s lies have disastrous consequences for son Michael

Coronation Street fans have been left fuming after Ed Bailey's lies about gambling landed his son Michael in jail.

The street is still coming to terms with the magnitude of Stephen Reid's crimes, which were revealed shortly before his death.

One of Stephen's many crimes was stealing £250,000 from the Underworld factory to fund his escape after he tricked Michael to give him the access code to the accounts.

Michael lost his job after Stephen's stealing came to light, which left him struggling to support himself and his daughter.

In desperation, Michael asked his dad Ed and uncle Ronnie for the £1,000 he had put towards their business back.

Tonight, Monday, 23 October, Ed gave in and started gambling again, putting all of Micheal’s money on a horse – which ended up winning, much to his delight.

Back at home, Ed stuffed his winnings in a bag in the hallway to hide it from Micheal and his daughter Dee-Dee Bailey.

However, unaware of what was in the bag, Michael picked it up on his way to Underworld to try and win his job back, but was stunned when DS Swain arrived to question him about the money that was stolen.

After answering her questions, Michael was shocked to open his bag and find a huge amount of cash. DS Swain noticed the money and demanded to know where it has come from with Ed still not admitting the truth.

Corrie fans were raging at Ed's lie, as they rushed to X – formerly known as Twitter – to comment.

One wrote: "He’s a coward imagine no havin the baws to own up and say that’s his money. Throwing his son under the bus #corrie #coronationstreet."

A second said: "Ed should have told the truth about the money as soon as he went in the Police station. He's acting like a p**k just to cover up his gambling. Michael is his son. He needs to help him asap."

A third person fumed: "#Corrie #coronationstreet @itvcorrie Sorry, but why hasn't he owned up to the 6k being gambling money? It could save his son from going to prison."

"Ed has got to be one of the worst liars ever! #Michael #Corrie #CoronationStreet," raged a fourth.

Another Corrie fan shared their theory as to where the storyline could be heading, as they wrote online: "I wondering if Ed’s gambling storyline is there way of bringing in Ronnie and Ed’s dad as he’s due to arrive. Like one of them contacts him for financial help? #Corrie # CoronationStreet."
