When she first appeared on Coronation Street, Kelly Neelan (played by Millie Gibson) was a troubled teen who found herself falling in with the wrong crowd. After nearly being convicted for Seb Franklin’s (Harry Visinoni) murder, Kelly has also had to deal with homelessness and the death of both her parents Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) and Laura Neelan (Kel Allen). Kelly has since found happiness living with Gary Windass (Mikey North) who felt guilty for killing her father. Kelly has recently become engaged to Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) after the pair realised their feelings for one another, but her world is set to come crashing down when she makes a shocking discovery.

In upcoming scenes, Aadi accidentally reveals the news to Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) that he and Kelly are planning on getting married in Gretna Green.

Dev is stunned at the sudden move from his son and a furious row breaks out as he wants to know why Aadi wants to chain himself to someone like Kelly.

Kelly is determined to win Dev round and prove how serious they are about one another, deciding to throw an engagement party.

Trying to help, Gary advises Dev he needs to accept Aadi and Kelly’s marriage or he could risk losing his son altogether. Will Dev push his son too far?

Knowing how much it would mean to her, Gary offers to chip in towards the wedding, leaving Kelly overwhelmed with kindness, however, Maria (Samia Longchambon) has her concerns about the marriage.

Using her inheritance money, Kelly begins planning the engagement party extravaganza, but soon hears Maria saying once the party is over, Kelly will get bored of Aadi.

Wanting to get in on the celebrations, Sharon Bently (Tracie Bennett) turns up but Gary corners her before she can make her entrance to beg her not to ruin Kelly’s night.

Will Sharon expose Gary as the one who killed Rick?

Aadi soon puts his foot in his mouth again and let’s slip about Kelly’s kidnap ordeal, prompting her to ask Gary to give her away, leaving Sharon horrified.

Later, Kelly receives a holdall of her mum’s things which she left behind in Spain and comes across a digital camera.

She is shocked to see the holiday dated the 17th of June 2019, the date her Dad was murdered.

Returning home, Kelly shows Gary the photos and asserts she wants to know who really killed her dad. Has Gary’s cover been blown after all this time?

Producer Iain McLeod has recently opened up on the explosive storyline which will see Kelly leave Weatherfield.

He explained: “We thought, well actually, the fact that Millie is going and that therefore Kelly is going, allows us to go really big and do something incredibly high stake.

“To maybe have some characters step on all these landmines that we’ve buried for them over the years and have them all go off in one cataclysmic explosion.

“What we’ve done is create this incredible rooftop sequence with a sort of twinkling cityscape behind it.

“So that we can do things that you could never normally do in a location shoot.

“You can put real actors in what appears to be very real danger without using stunt performers.”

The way Kelly is set to leave the soap is still being kept tightly under wraps but it could see her finally learn the truth about Rick.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV.
