EastEnders Danielle Harold still in shock after huge career milestone

EastEnders star Danielle Harold, who played the beloved fan-favourite character Lola Pearce on the BBC One soap, has shared an emotional message with her fans after winning big at the British Soap Awards on Saturday, June 3.

The actress posted a thank you message to her fans as she reflected on taking the gong for "Best Leading Performer" at the ceremony, which is airing on ITV tonight (June 6).

Sharing a snap of her sobbing on stage, the popular star admitted she was still taking it in.

"I’m still in shock, I can’t thank everyone that took the time to vote for me enough," Danielle captioned her post.

"It really means the world and the love I felt in that room I have no words for except thank you, thank you so much."

Fans flocked to the comments to share their love for the star and her character, who sadly died last week following a harrowing battle with brain cancer during last Wednesday's instalment.

"I voted for you! Congratulations! So deserved. All the best with your next move," one person wrote.

Another follower gushed: "Congratulations Danielle! You deserved that award so much, you was beyond phenomenal in your recent storyline and you absolutely deserve all the credit."

"Fully deserved," a third posted, followed by: "You deserved it hun you were remarkable. Shame Lola had to perish."

Lola's death was utterly devastating on EastEnders, with some of the most powerful scenes coming from her husband Jay Brown and their young daughter Lexi.

The hairdresser was diagnosed with an incurable form of the disease last year, but despite having her future set in stone, Lola fought every day to stay strong and make as many memories as she could with her family.

When the episode finally arrived for Lola to say goodbye, viewers were in floods of tears as Danielle's performance of a dying mother was absolutely incredible.

While Danielle is gearing up for her next career move, her on-screen scene-partner Jamie Borthwick recently teased what's next for heartbroken widower Jay on Albert Square.

The actor also echoed Danielle's gratitude to the fans as he told Metro how powerful and relatable the storyline has been for so many people.

"I don’t know how many messages I’ve had from people who lost a relative or a widow, or are suffering themselves," he said.

"So, to everyone who sent a message or said a lovely thing, we all really appreciate it. Just thank you ever so much," the star added.

EastEnders continues Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One
