Richard Madeley blushes as old BBC recording unearthed
Richard Madeley was left blushing as his co-star Susanna Reid took a cheeky swipe over how he used to sound.
On Monday’s instalment of Good Morning Britain, the 67-year-old and his colleagues were paying homage to his start in the industry.
At the age of 19, Richard joined BBC Radio Carlisle in the 1970s before heading over to Granada Reports in the early 1980s.
As the radio station has hit a milestone, the panel decided to play ITV viewers a snippet of how he used to sound.
Susanna said: “It is BBC Cumbria’s 50th anniversary and to remind you of your origins here’s Richard Madeley back in the day.”

The GMB host then played an audio recording of the 67-year-old from 1976 as he was seen squirming in the studio at the throwback.
Laughing, upon hearing his own voice from over 30 years ago, one of the panellists asked ITV bosses to play it again.
When it came to an end he said: “I’m actually blushing! I can’t do that voice anymore.”
Highlighting the change in his accent, Charlotte Hawkins quipped he sounded extremely posh in the radio broadcast.

Richard replied: “I sound like a second world war newsreader! I’m from Romford Essex.
“That’s how I spoke when I worked for Carlisle and I found out I was having to talk like that!”
Taking a cheeky swipe at her co-stark, Susanna added:” Even the Royals don’t talk like that.”
As the studio erupted into laughter, Richard replied: “I know, I know.”
Richard stayed at the BBC station for two years and would often read the news and record on location.
He later moved on to Granada Reports where he met his now wife Judy Finnigan.
Last week, the presenter told GMB viewers he was celebrating his 37th wedding anniversary with his wife, who have been together a total of 40 years.
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
