Inside the life of The Repair Shop expert Dominic Chinea

The Repair Shop: Jay comforts Suzie over guest’s ‘remarkable story’

Although fans are used to seeing restoration star Dominic Chinea regularly on their screens, The Repair Shop star lives a pretty private life away from the camera.

First joining the hit show back in 2017, viewers have seen the expert bring guests’ beloved treasures back to life including sentimental rings, childhood gifts and family heirlooms.

However, when he’s not filming the BBC show, Dominic seems to enjoy a quiet life with his producer wife Maria Domican.

The duo tied the knot on October 21, 2017, however, little else is known about their relationship as Dominic keeps her out of the public eye.

It’s believed the duo live together in a quaint red-bricked country home in rural Kent with their dog Wendy.

On his official website, it’s clear Dominic has many other skills under his belt as he also specialises in set design, prop making and sign writing.

When he’s not filming for The Repair Shop, he works on personal projects in his own workshop and often fixes vintage cars.

The BBC star also has a shop where people are able to buy merchandise and has written a book about his trade.

Titled Tools: A Visual History, Dominic shared the news with his Instagram followers last year.

However, the star also seems to be a keen gardener as he owns a greenhouse near his property where he grows his own vegetables including runner beans and avocados.

Fans of the restorer were thrilled last year when it was revealed that Dominic would have his own show Make it at Market.

The series saw a group of budding entrepreneurs trying to make a living from their crafting hobbies with the help of craft experts.

Although Dominic’s talents seem to know no end, the expert stumbled into his career through his curiosity.

He explained to the BBC: “I love learning and I’m constantly trying to learn and improve new skills.

“Instead I always seem to think of myself in terms of the saying ‘A jack of all trades, a master of none’ dipping into all different subjects.

“My background was always art and graphic design, however, my passion for cars and metalwork led to jobs in car restoration and metalwork.

“My set design career helped combine all my varying interests, both practical and artistic.”

The Repair Shop is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
