Sir Rod Stewart’s wife Penny Lancaster was one of the guests on Monday’s special instalment of Good Morning Britain who shared anecdotes about Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III. The former Loose Women star paid tribute to the late Queen before opening up about a mortifying moment with her eldest son, the new King.

Penny was interviewed by Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shepard for a special instalment of the ITV news programme dedicated to the late monarch.

The former model explained she once had the opportunity to sit with King Charles at a royal dinner.

“Of course, I was terribly nervous about the whole thing,” she added. “Just like his mother, he put me at ease.”

She continued: “I meant to remove some food from a platter to try and get it onto my plate and it dropped between my plate and his on this white table cloth.”

Ben and Susanna cringed as Penny carried on explaining the embarrassing tale to ITV viewers.

Penny exclaimed: “I thought I was going to be dragged by my hair out of the room, never to be seen again.

“And without one single word, [King Charles] gave me that look of don’t worry.

“He actually said, ‘I do it all the time,’ to completely put people at ease and then I went on to dance with him as Rod came on and performed.”

She later said her husband Sir Rod has performed for the Royal Family on multiple occasions.

“While Rod was performing, I was on the dance floor with Prince Charles,” she added.

She said she danced with the King at his 60th birthday party to her husband’s hit song Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?

Penny said Prince Andrew, Prince William and Prince Harry were also on the dance floor while she was.

Sir Rod had the privilege of singing to the nation at the BBC’s Jubilee Party at The Palace earlier this summer to mark the Queen’s 70-year reign.

He shared a touching tribute to the monarch after she died on Thursday at Balmoral Castle, in Scotland.

The rocker said: “It has been a devastating 48 hours. We lost my brother Don on Tuesday at 94 and today we have all lost Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at 96.”

Sir Rod added: “The Queen has been an unwavering presence throughout my life and a great unifier.

“[She was] a shining star that will never fade in our hearts and souls.”

The 77-year-old concluded: “What a privilege it was to perform for her. My deepest sympathies to the Royal Family. God save the King.”

The Queen’s funeral will be held on Monday, September 19 but a date for King Charles’ coronation is yet to be confirmed.

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays from 6am until 9am on ITV.
