Who are David Cameron and Samantha's children?
David Cameron, former British Prime Minister, married his wife Samantha in 1996 in Oxfordshire – five years before he was elected as a Member of Parliament.
David and Samantha went on to have four children together.
They welcomed their firstborn son, Ivan Reginald Ian, into the world in 2002, followed by their eldest daughter, Nancy Gwen Beatrice Cameron, in 2004.
The couple's second son, Arthur Elwen, was born in 2006.
However, in 2009, their firstborn son Ivan, who had suffered from the rare Ohtahara syndrome, died aged six.
The youngest of David and Samantha's four children, Florence Rose Endellion Cameron, was born in 2010, the same year that her father became Prime Minister.
She was born three weeks prematurely on August 10, 2010, while the couple were on holiday in Cornwall.
What was Ivan's illness?
Ivan Cameron was born with a rare combination of cerebral palsy and severe epilepsy called Ohtahara syndrome – which requires round-the-clock care.
Ivan died a year before his father was elected into power.
Ohtahara syndrome is rare epileptic condition where seizures typically start before three months of age.
It affects around one in 500 epileptic sufferers and is caused by an underlying structural brain abnormality.
This can be caused by brain damage before and around the time of birth, or it can be passed on in the genes.
Babies can suffer jerking limbs or spasms, and doctors will typically monitor any seizures before making a diagnosis.
What has David Cameron said about his children in his memoirs?
Cameron published a book of memoirs in September 2019, detailing his time as Prime Minister and his thoughts on the EU referendum.
In his memoirs, David Cameron revealed how the EU Referendum affected his family – especially his children.
The former PM expressed his love for his children — and said he was particularly proud of Nancy and Arthur Elwen.
They were old enough to understand what was going on and had become wrapped up in the fight to stay in the European Union.
He said: “Nancy and Elwen had been so engaged in the campaign, and so sweet and supportive to me.
“I knew they knew I was stressed, because they’d been hugging me more than usual.
“Nancy had been taking my ‘Conservative in’ campaign badges and giving them to her friends.”
Mr Cameron also reveals how his son Elwen gave a brilliant account of himself in a school debate — on the morning his dad revealed he was leaving No 10.

He writes: “On the morning I gave my resignation speech outside No 10, Elwen was in a school project in which they would act out the UN having a debate on human rights.
“They had been rehearsing, with a German girl in his class playing Angela Merkel, an American boy playing Barack Obama and Elwen playing me.
“The teachers asked him that morning if he wanted to go ahead, or if it would be too upsetting, given what had just happened. ‘I want to do it for my dad’, he replied. His performance apparently had the watching parents in tears.”
Cameron returned to the front line of British politics in November 2023, replacing James Cleverly as Foreign Secretary as part of Rishi Sunak's cabinet reshuffle.
The reshuffle saw the sacking of Suella Braverman as Home Secretary, with Cleverly taking her place in the role.
